IN a moment of national pride and global recognition, 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State has emerged as the World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
News Point Nigeria reports that representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa triumphed over more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations, a historic achievement that has captivated Nigerians at home and abroad.
The TeenEagle competition is a prestigious international contest designed to test English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills. It attracts secondary school students from both English- and non-English-speaking countries, making Nafisa’s win even more extraordinary.
In a statement released by Hassan Salifu, the head of Nafisa’s family, her win was described as a result of “dedication, discipline, and the enabling support of the Yobe State Government.”
“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary investment in education by Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honour to both Yobe and Nigeria,” Salifu said.
He also praised Nafisa’s exceptional ability to outperform contestants from native English-speaking countries, calling it “a reflection of her brilliance, hard work, and preparation.”
Nafisa’s victory has ignited widespread celebration across Yobe State and beyond, with social media awash in tributes and commendations. Many Nigerians are now urging state and federal authorities to honour her achievement formally.
“This is not just a personal win, it’s a win for Nigeria,” said a relative. “She has proven that with the right environment, Nigerian students can compete and triumph on the global stage.”
The family extended their gratitude to NTIC teachers and staff, who they say played a crucial role in nurturing Nafisa’s academic talent. They also credited the state government for prioritising education reforms that have enabled students like Nafisa to flourish.
“Governor Buni’s policies are transforming Yobe’s schools. Nafisa’s win is proof that investing in education pays off not just locally, but globally,” the family stated.
