Seyi Tinubu Defends Father’s Reforms, Says Short-Term Pain Will Bring Lasting Benefits

Seyi

SEYI Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said his father’s administration chose to confront the challenges it inherited for the benefit of younger Nigerians and future generations, acknowledging that the reforms have imposed immediate hardships on families but arguing that their benefits would endure.

News Point Nigeria reports that Seyi made the remarks on Monday at the maiden edition of the Seyi Tinubu Colloquium, held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, with the theme, “Shaping the Future Together.”

He said President Tinubu had chosen to address the country’s inherited challenges not merely for the benefit of his administration but also to create opportunities for younger Nigerians and generations yet unborn.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not choose Nigeria, did not choose the Nigeria inherited from his predecessors, yet his administration chose to confront the challenges of our nation, not for itself alone, but for the benefits of those who come next, for us, the young generation,” he said.

Seyi described the removal of the fuel subsidy, the reform of the foreign exchange system and the overhaul of taxation as decisions affecting how Nigeria earns, spends and creates opportunities for its citizens.

He acknowledged that the changes had been difficult for families, particularly those grappling with stretched household budgets, but maintained that the benefits would last beyond the immediate period of hardship.

“Changes have not been easy. Families whose budgets have been stretched, the pain was immediate, the lasting improvement more difficult to feel and touch, yet they are no less real,” he said.

The President’s son pointed to infrastructure development and renewed investment across key sectors as evidence of progress, saying new roads and superhighways would connect producers to markets and improve access to employment.

He also said increased investment in power, mining, manufacturing and agriculture was creating opportunities and improving the productivity of Nigerian businesses.

“New roads and superhighways will connect producers to markets, people to work,” he said.

“Renewed investment in sectors such as power, mining, manufacturing and agriculture is creating exciting new opportunities and making Nigerian businesses more productive than they have ever been before.”

Seyi further highlighted the importance of institutions that expand access to education and credit, arguing that such structures would have lasting value beyond the tenure of any administration.

“Institutions that widen access to education and credit for every Nigerian, that means to develop the ability in a globally competitive market. These are the foundations whose values extend beyond any administration.

“A road built today will serve people who are still children. An institution strengthened today can protect opportunities for Nigerians yet unborn,” he said.

Explaining his support for the administration’s reform direction, Seyi said his generation needed an economy where hard work could translate into meaningful rewards and a country capable of supporting the ambitions of its people.

He maintained that the decisions being taken by the current administration would shape the economic and social opportunities available to young Nigerians in the years ahead.

“I support this direction because our generation needs an economy in which every effort has a fair chance of yielding reward.

“We need a country capable of supporting the ambition of its people. I support President Bola Tinubu’s reforms because we will inherit a future built by leaders of today,” he said.

Seyi also urged young Nigerians to take an active role in leadership and decision-making, stressing that their participation was necessary to ensure that policies and decisions made today would benefit them in the future.

“That is why I also believe we have the responsibility to participate in the leadership and ensure that what is decided today will benefit all of us tomorrow,” he added.

The colloquium, themed “Shaping the Future Together,” provided a platform for Seyi to discuss the administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure investments and the role of younger Nigerians in shaping the country’s future.
