Political Earthquake In Kano: Councillors, Supporters Dump APC For NNPP

THE New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), under the leadership of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, is gaining further momentum in Kano as the 2027 elections approach, with a wave of defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    BORNO PATRIOTS

In a significant political shift, ten former councillors, alongside 646 APC members from Tofa and 1,120 from Rimingado Local Government Areas (LGAs), have joined the NNPP.

The Deputy Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, led the defectors to Senator Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano, where they were formally welcomed into the party on Tuesday.

The defectors include former councillors from various wards across the two LGAs.

Among them are Suleiman Musa Jili, a two-term councillor from Jili Ward in Rimingado, and Bashir Bello, a former council leader from Sakaratsa Ward in the same area.

Joining them are Muhammad Nura from Dawakin Gulu Ward, Abba Musa from Dugurrawa Ward, Hafeezu Tamawa from Tamawa Ward, and Sani Isyaku from Jili Ward, all from Rimingado.

From Tofa, Musbahu Muhammad of Unguar Rimi Ward, Ibrahim Muhammad of Langel Ward, Ahmad Magaji of Wargara Ward, and Salisu Sani of Yarimawa Ward have also switched allegiance to NNPP.

Other notable figures among the defectors include Comrade Baffa Galadima, President of the Rimingado Youth Council, and Hon. Musa Dandole Dokadawa, the SDP Chairman of Rimingado LGA.

While welcoming the new members, Senator Kwankwaso expressed his satisfaction with the growing support for the NNPP.

He stressed that the defections were based on the party’s strong ideological foundation, rather than a mere increase in membership numbers.

He also highlighted the party’s recent rebranding, featuring a new logo that includes a book and graduation cap, symbolizing NNPP’s commitment to education.

“Our slogan, ‘New Nigeria, Education for All,’ reflects our prioritization of education in building a better future,” Kwankwaso remarked.
