TWO persons, one of them identified as simply as Rabilu, were feared killed and another abducted by suspected bandits who attacked Faruruwa village market in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to a source from Faruruwa village, the attack occurred Thursday evening when people were closing shops for the day after market.
He revealed that the attack was targeted at a local businessman in the area whose wife was once abducted by the bandits and later released after ransom payment.
The source noted that the gunmen went directly to the man’s stall but did not meet him and abducted his son.
“It is clear that the businessman is the target because when they came, they went straight to the businessman’s stall. Some time ago, they abducted the businessman’s wife and after ransom payment they released her after 60 days. When they didn’t find him in his stall, they took his son.
“They then went on a shooting spree and in the process killed two people and injured one. The army was quick to come after being informed of the attack. They chased the bandits,” the source revealed.
Faruruwa village shares borders with some Katsina villages and it was believed that the bandits came from there to stage the attack.
It was gathered that the border area had been under the watch of the Nigerian army as soldiers were said to be stationed there.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, but said he did had yet to get details of the attack.
