THE National Examinations Council (NECO) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and online platforms that it is currently recruiting new staff, describing the claim as false and a fraudulent attempt to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani made available to News Point Nigeria, the Council clarified that it has not embarked on any recruitment exercise and has no immediate plans to do so.
“The attention of the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been drawn to an online publication purporting that the Council is planning to recruit new staff,” the statement read.
“The Council hereby strongly states that the publication is the product of the imagination of fraudsters who are out to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.”
Sani advised Nigerians to disregard the publication, warning that the scheme was designed by fraudsters who often set up fake websites and portals to lure desperate job seekers into parting with money.
The Council also stressed that when the Federal Government gives approval for staff recruitment, NECO under the leadership of its Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, would strictly follow due process and comply with all relevant laws guiding recruitment into federal agencies.
“The Council, under the leadership of the Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, will always adhere to due process and relevant extant laws when the Federal Government approves staff recruitment,” Sani assured.
NECO urged members of the public, particularly job seekers, to always verify recruitment information directly from its official website and communication channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
