TENSION has gripped Plateau State after suspected gunmen abducted Hon. Laven Denty Jacob, the lawmaker representing Pankshin South Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
News Point Nigeria gathered that the daring abduction occurred on Monday night at the legislator’s residence in Angwan Kagji, Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area, throwing colleagues, family members, and constituents into panic.
According to a close aide of the lawmaker, who previously worked with him during his tenure as Vice Chairman of Pankshin Local Government under former Governor Simon Lalong’s administration, the incident happened at about 7:30 pm.
The aide revealed that Hon. Jacob had just returned home and was waiting at his gate for his security guard to open it when three masked men suddenly accosted him.
“They dragged him out of his car in front of his gate and whisked him away at gunpoint. Everything happened so fast,” the aide recounted.
The assailants reportedly bundled him into their getaway vehicle and drove off to an unknown destination.
The news of the abduction has rattled the Plateau State House of Assembly, where frantic discussions are ongoing on urgent steps to secure his release.
Lawmakers expressed deep concern that a sitting member of the House could be abducted so close to the capital city, highlighting once again the worsening insecurity across the state.
The incident has been formally reported to security agencies. Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed awareness of the abduction in a telephone interview with this newspaper.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident. Our operatives are on it. A formal statement will be issued later today,” Alabo said, without giving further details.
For now, the fate of the lawmaker remains uncertain as security agencies intensify efforts to track the kidnappers and rescue him alive.
