THE Plateau State Police Command on Monday confirmed that seven people were injured in a shooting incident along the Bukuru Expressway in the Jos South Local Government Area of the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that the victims were traders who were returning from the market when gunmen allegedly opened fire on their vehicle at Bukuru community in the Jos South Local Government Area on Sunday.
In a statement issued in Jos on Monday, the command condemned the attack, saying the incident targeted traders returning from Kara Market in Bukuru.
The spokesman for the command, SP Alfred Alabo, disclosed this in the statement, which he signed.
The statement partly read, “The Plateau State Police Command has received with deep concern the report of a shooting incident that occurred on 4th October, 2026 at about 04:30 pm along Bukuru Expressway, Jos South LGA.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle targeted was conveying traders returning from Kara Market, Bukuru, Jos. Seven injured victims have so far been traced to the Military Clinic, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they are receiving medical attention.”
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Investigations to take full charge of the investigation.
The police boss also ordered the investigative team to ensure that the perpetrators were fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The Command strongly condemns this dastardly act and wishes the injured victims a quick recovery.
“Meanwhile, Tactical Teams and Anti-robbery Teams have been mobilised to beef up security around the general area while intelligence has been stepped up to identify and arrest the perpetrators,” the statement added.
The command advised residents of the state to go about their lawful business and remain vigilant, while urging them to report any suspicious activity to the police through the Control Room emergency numbers: 07059473022 and 08038907662.
It also released dedicated numbers for reporting unethical conduct by police officers, including ACP X-SQUAD – 08034448617, PPRO – 08060545670, CRU – 08037681026 and PCB – 09016146804.
The command added that further developments on the incident would be communicated accordingly.
