STAKEHOLDERS of the Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State have unanimously endorsed Mustapha Sule Lamido as the sole consensus governorship candidate of the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
News Point Nigeria reports that the endorsement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Dutse and attended by party elders drawn from the 27 local government areas of the state.
At the meeting, Mustapha Lamido was presented with the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms by the Jigawa State Chairman of the PDP, Babandi Ibrahim Gumel.
While presenting the forms to the candidate, Babandi stated that the party was also working towards ensuring that all its candidates for other elective positions in the state emerge through consensus arrangements.
He explained that the choice of Mustapha Sule Lamido as the PDP’s consensus governorship candidate was in line with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, which permit political parties to either conduct primaries or adopt consensus candidates for elections.
According to him, the move was part of preparations for the forthcoming general election.
In his acceptance speech, Mustapha Lamido expressed profound gratitude to the stakeholders and members of the party across the state for giving him another opportunity to contest the governorship election.
He assured party members that he would do everything humanly possible to protect the interests of the PDP and the people of Jigawa State.
The PDP governorship aspirant also urged supporters to redouble their efforts towards ensuring the success of the party at all levels during next year’s polls.
Mustapha Lamido further stated that despite the internal crisis facing the PDP nationally, the party remains the strongest opposition political platform committed to rescuing Nigeria and Nigerians from what he described as the current unpleasant and difficult situation.
He added that he possesses the vision and mission required to move Jigawa State to what he described as the “safe promised land” if elected governor.
Some stakeholders who spoke during the meeting described the development as a political milestone capable of salvaging and rebuilding Jigawa State under a PDP administration if voted into power by the electorate.
