A MEMBER of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Adamawa State has reportedly died during the penalty shootouts of the match between Nigeria and South Africa on Wednesday evening.
News Point Nigeria reports that the corps member identified only as Peter Yunana with badge number AD/23C/0365 from Kaduna State, allegedly passed away shortly after the penalty shoot out started.
A top Adamawa state government official told this newspaper via Whatsapp.
The message read in part, “ Good morning sir,
“A corps member by name Peter Yunana,AD/23C/0365 serving in GSS Numan,collapsed and died last night.
“They were watching the Nigeria vs South Africa football match and when it reached the time for the penalty kick,he told his colleagues that he won’t watch the kick,so he bend down his head and later collapsed.
“He was rushed to the Numan General Hospital by his colleagues and was confirmed dead. The corpse is deposited in the hospital’s mutuary.
“We will transport the corpse to FMC Yola this morning for proper preservation,pending the funeral arrangements by his parents in Kaduna state. For your information sir.

When contacted by this newspaper, the NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Jingi Dennis, on Thursday, said the corps member was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan.
Dennis said, ”I received the news of his death last night. I hope to have more details today.
“According to his colleagues who went with him to watch the match, the late corps member told the people around him that he did not like watching penalty shootouts. He then bowed his head and all of a sudden, he collapsed.
”He was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the doctor.”
News Point Nigeria had earlier reported how a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, passed away on Wednesday evening while watching the AFCON semi-finals match between Nigeria and South Africa.
A source close to the politician stated, “Cairo Ojougboh, a medical doctor died during the Nigeria vs. South Africa match.
“The incident happened when the penalty was awarded against Nigeria. Dr Ojougboh was said to have shouted and slumped due to massive heart attack when SA scored.”
