APC Govs In Closed-Door Meeting, Ganduje May Emerge New Party Chairman

GOVERNORS of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are meeting behind closed doors Wednesday evening to discuss the state of affairs of the party, following the resignation of its National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

The pair stepped down on Monday, paving the way for the emergence of the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, as the party’s National Chairman.

A reliable source told News Point Nigeria that, the meeting may also set the emergence of former Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the new party chairman.

The source added that, President Bola Tinubu wants a reliable and trusted ally at the helm of the party affairs and even though some of the president’s men are kicking against the idea, the president himself is convinced the former Kano state governor is the right man for the job.

It was also gathered that, earlier in the day, Ganduje had a pre-take-over meeting with the Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, Kwara state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

This newspaper learnt that Ganduje has agreed to sacrifice his ministerial ambition to work in the best interest of the party and the country.

In attendance at the late meeting presided over by Gov Uzodinma, are the Governors of Ekiti, Ebonyi, Niger, and Benue.

Others include the governors of Kaduna, Lagos, Yobe, Katsina and Kebbi, as well as the acting governor of Ondo State.

Recall Kyari succeeded Adamu as the party’s chairman after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.

Briefing reporters after the NWC meeting, Kyari formally announced the resignation of Adamu and Omisore as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary respectively.

Kyari further stated that in line with the constitution of the party, the Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, would serve as the acting National Secretary of the APC.
