APC Suspends Ex-Ogun Governor, Gbenga Daniel, Lawmaker Folarin Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

THE Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor and serving Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, along with Hon. Kunle Folarin, over allegations of anti-party activities.

    His Royal Highness

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the party’s State Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta on Monday.

According to the statement, the suspensions were first initiated by the lawmakers’ respective wards — Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area, after complaints of anti-party conduct were formally lodged against them.

Both Senator Daniel and Hon. Folarin were reportedly invited by their ward executives to appear before disciplinary committees set up to investigate the allegations but allegedly failed to honour the summons.

Following this, the ward executives moved to suspend them, forwarding their resolutions to the State Working Committee (SWC) for ratification.

“In exercise of its powers, the State Working Committee of the APC in Ogun State affirms the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin by their respective wards,” the statement read.

The SWC, chaired by Chief Yemi Sanusi, reviewed the reports of the disciplinary committees during its meeting held on August 19.

    Happy Birthday

According to the party, the suspensions were in line with due process and were necessary to safeguard the integrity of the APC and enforce party discipline.

The statement emphasized: “The APC Ogun State remains committed to the supremacy of the party constitution, adherence to internal mechanisms, and the enforcement of discipline where members are found wanting.”

It further clarified that the suspension is pending further review and subject to outcomes of the ongoing internal processes.

Senator Gbenga Daniel, popularly known as OGD, governed Ogun State between 2003 and 2011 under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before later joining the APC. His suspension signals a deepening of internal rifts within the party in the state, particularly as stakeholders brace up for future elections.

While the APC has confirmed the suspensions, it stressed that the disciplinary process is ongoing.

It remains unclear whether Senator Daniel and Hon. Folarin will appeal the decision or seek reconciliation within the party framework.

As of press time, neither Senator Daniel nor Hon. Folarin had issued an official response to their suspension.
