THE Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday led a high-powered delegation of security chiefs to Jos, the Plateau State capital, for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation, as part of renewed efforts to restore peace and stability in the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that the visit comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Plateau State, with authorities intensifying coordinated operations to contain threats and prevent further escalation of violence.
During the visit, the Army Chief received a comprehensive operational briefing from Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace.
The briefing detailed ongoing military and inter-agency efforts aimed at stabilising affected communities, improving intelligence gathering, and strengthening rapid response mechanisms across flashpoints in the state.
According to military authorities, the operations involve close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure a unified and effective approach to tackling insecurity.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting citizens and restoring normalcy.
“The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to safeguarding all law-abiding citizens and will continue to work tirelessly with sister security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property across Plateau State,” Shaibu said.
He further urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, especially by adhering to existing measures such as the curfew imposed in affected areas.
“We urge residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by complying with existing security measures, including the curfew, while cooperating with ongoing operations and investigations,” he added.
As part of the peace mission, the Army Chief also engaged with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the military’s resolve to address security challenges and restore lasting peace.
The engagement, according to officials, is aimed at building trust between security forces and local communities, while encouraging the flow of timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
A security source told News Point Nigeria that such on-the-ground assessments by top military leadership often signal a shift toward more decisive and coordinated actions in volatile regions.
