Army Confirms Killing Of Soldier, Farmers In Benue Communities

THE Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of one soldier and another wounded by suspected bandits at a village in the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State where troops have been deployed to keep the peace over persistent attacks in the area.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) Major General Sunday Iserihen Igbinomwanhia who confirmed this to newsmen on Monday said one personnel was killed and one injured.

He said the troops in response killed three and injured several of the bandits, adding that one AK-47 and rounds of ammunition were recovered from them.

Maj. General Sunday also intimated that OPWS is carrying out a clearance operation to flush out suspected bandits who have invaded the Kwande Local Government Area of the state where many villagers had been killed over the weekend.

Last month, a soldier was killed and two others injured in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State when bandits laid ambush on the troops in what has become a styled gorilla attack on both farming communities and troops deployed for peacekeeping.
