THE Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has announced that the first-ever Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival will hold from December 16 to 17, 2025, at the Cricket Pitch, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, marking a major boost to Nigeria’s cultural calendar.
The Minister, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Esq., disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that the initiative organised in partnership with Irabor Creative Minds is designed to celebrate Nigeria’s rich culinary traditions, cultural diversity, and creative excellence.
According to a statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Tuesday by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Nneka Ikem Anibeze, Musawa described the forthcoming event as a cornerstone in the government’s agenda to leverage art, culture, and tourism as engines of economic growth, job creation, and national unity.
“Detty December is a globally recognised cultural phenomenon that emerged from Lagos. The Federal Government will give full support to ensure a safe, beautiful, and culturally enriching experience for the international community and lovers of creativity,” she said.
Explaining why Lagos was selected to host the maiden edition, the Minister said the city remains the heartbeat of Nigeria’s cultural and creative industries.
“This will be a bigger Detty December,” she promised. “We foresee a future where the Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival becomes a premier event that attracts visitors from around the world to experience the richness and diversity of our cultural identity.”
Musawa also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what she described as his visionary leadership and continued support for the arts, culture, and tourism sectors.
She further called on Nigerians, cultural enthusiasts, and international visitors to participate in the festival and help make the event a flagship national celebration.
Managing Director and COO of Irabor Creative Minds, Jude Irabor Uwagbai, assured the public that robust security measures have been put in place. He revealed that the organisation is working closely with the Lion Building Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command to ensure the safety of visitors and exhibitors.
“We are inviting the world to Lagos to come and experience Nigerian culture in its authenticity. Security and comfort are our top priorities,” he added.
The festival is expected to feature culinary exhibitions, food tasting sessions, cultural displays, musical performances, fashion showcases, and interactive experiences aimed at celebrating Nigeria’s cultural essence.
