PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to place engineering excellence at the centre of Nigeria’s infrastructural and economic transformation, insisting that no country can outgrow the capacity, competence, and creativity of its engineering community.

News Point Nigeria reports that the President made the declaration on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, while addressing engineers at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) International Engineering Conference, Exhibition, and Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ibadan, Oyo State.

President Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo commended the NSE for decades of professionalism, innovation, and advocacy. He described the Society as “a strong pillar providing direction, training, and quality assurance to Nigeria’s engineering ecosystem.”

The President emphasised that engineering innovation remains indispensable to the success of Nigeria’s development goals, noting that civil, mechanical, electrical, agricultural, chemical, software, and other engineering professionals continue to shape the nation’s infrastructure.

He said the theme of the 2025 conference aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes durable federal roads, improved power infrastructure, water systems, climate-smart agriculture, housing, broadband expansion, and modern transportation.

According to him, the Federal Government has expanded the scope and depth of road and infrastructure projects to ensure sustainability, strengthen local content, and increase opportunities for Nigerian engineers especially young professionals.

“Our agenda prioritizes local engineering capacity, ensuring that young professionals have meaningful opportunities to participate in national projects,” Tinubu said.

He added that the administration is deepening collaboration with universities, research institutes, and the engineering community to close skills gaps and promote innovation-driven solutions.

The President restated the government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business, boosting locally manufactured construction materials, and leveraging Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) to fast-track major projects across the country.

He assured the NSE of continued collaboration, noting that Nigeria would rely on the “integrity, expertise, and innovative spirit” of its engineers to build a stronger, more resilient nation.

Calling for collective effort, Tinubu added: “Together, let us continue building the Nigeria we desire — brick by brick, road by road, innovation by innovation.”

In a separate development during the event, the Nigerian Society of Engineers formally conferred Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, one of the institution’s highest recognitions.

A letter earlier issued by the NSE Council disclosed that the minister was found deserving of the award assigned Fellowship Number HF0043 in recognition of his “immense contributions to the promotion of engineering and national development.”

The conferment ceremony was held during the opening session of the conference at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

NSE leaders praised the Minister’s long-standing commitment to infrastructure renewal, urban modernization, and reforms in construction and transportation sectors.

Participants also highlighted the government’s recent initiatives aimed at improving road quality, revamping maintenance culture, and strengthening the engineering workforce.

In his address, the minister congratulated the Society for hosting a successful international conference and encouraged engineers to embrace emerging technologies, explore new ideas, and forge partnerships that would lift Nigeria’s engineering capability to global standards.
