GUBERNATORIAL candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, is ahead of Nasir Gawuna, his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, with over 10,000 votes in the nine Local Government Areas so far declared at the state collation center. The LGAs are Rano, Rogo, Makoda, Kunchi, Wudil, Karaye, Tsanyawa, Minjibir and Albasu. The NNPP has so far polled 153,103 votes while APC trails with 142,981, leaving a margin of 10,122. NNPP has so far won 5 LGAs, while APC has emerged victorious in 4.

JOURNALISTS in Kano have accused the Independent Electoral Commission of selecting few of their members to cover the governorship and State Houses of Assembly results collation, and threatened to boycott the process if such was not corrected immediately. INEC Public Relations Officer, Adam Maulud, had issued a statement with an addendum indicating few journalists as the only ones allowed to cover the result collation exercise on Sunday. A FORMER councillor of Getso ward, Ibrahim Nakuzama, has been reportedly shot dead over alleged ballot box snatching. Nakuzama was said to have been gunned down by security operatives in Gwarzo local government area of Kano, on Saturday. AT least 10 ballot boxes have been destroyed across several polling units in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State. This newspaper gathered that voting was progressing peacefully when unidentified thugs disrupted the process and destroyed the ballot boxes. AT least three women have been beaten up at different polling units in Kano over alleged vote buying. AHEAD of the Saturday’s governorship and state house of assembly elections, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has on Friday deployed surveillance helicopter and other operational vehicles to Kano state to ensure hitch-free exercise in the state. KANO State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has announced a donation of N250 million to the victims of the recent fire disaster at Singer and Kurmi markets in the state. A FIRE outbreak has razed shops at a popular commodity market, Singer Market, in Kano State. The fire, according to eyewitnesses, started mid night, but it couldn’t be controlled until around 8am. Firefighters alongside marketers worked to bring the situation under control and quench the fire from spreading to other places. A KANO Foremost businessman and contractor, Alhaji Sani Dahiru Yakasai popularly known as SDY is dead. SDY’s death was disclosed to News Point Nigeria by a family source. This newspaper learnt that, the deceased died in his office on Thursday after a prolonged illness. According to the source, SDY died at the age of 68 and his funeral (jana’iza) will take place at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu by 8am Friday, and he will be buried at the Tarauni cemetary.
