THE Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, against the election of Muhammad Yahaya as Governor of Gombe State. A five-member panel of the apex court led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun dismissed the appeal shortly after the appellants withdrew it. TWO female students at Al-Qalam University in Katsina State have been reportedly kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be bandits. The victims, Habiba Ango Shantali and Maryam Abubakar Musa, were kidnapped on their way back to school on Monday. The incident was confirmed by the president of the National Association of Niger State Students, Comrade Gambo Idris Shehu, in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Comr. Mohammmed Ibrahim. ARMED bandits stormed a joint military camp in Nahuta village, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina state on Sunday night, leaving a trail of destruction and looted goods in their wake. Sources within the camp confirmed the attack occurred around 11:30pm. The heavily-armed bandits, wielding AK-47s among other weapons reportedly set ablaze vehicles and other valuables. POLICE authorities in Zamfara have banned political gatherings and rallies ahead of the Supreme Court verdict on the governorship election in the state.  The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State Muhammad Dalijan issued the ban on Thursday, hours before Friday’s Supreme Court judgment on one of the petitions filed by Governor Dauda Lawal seeking to upturn the verdict of the court of appeal which invalidated his election and ordered a rerun. NO fewer than six traders lost their lives on Friday when their convoy of vehicles ran into bandits in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State. The traders were travelling from Maidabino village to participate in a weekly market located at Yan’tumaki. The two villages are within Danmusa Local Government Area. Residents revealed that the traders always travel in convoys because of the security situation in the council. THE Yobe State government has cancelled the licences of all private schools in the state and asked operators interested in following the laid rules and regulations to re-apply for new licences. The state government also said henceforth activities of all private schools in the state will tally with that of public schools, saying that the proprietors will no longer be allowed to operate and set rules that violate the norms and values of the state. TROOPS of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Hadarin Daji, have neutralised 10 terrorists and rescued nine kidnapped victims between Zamfara and Katsina States. ONE photographer and a police escort have reportedly died in a road accident involving the convoy of the deputy governor of Sokoto State, Engineer Idris Gobir. The accident occurred around 10:30am on Wednesday while the deputy governor was going to his hometown of Sabon Birni to host Governor Ahmed Aliyu who paid a condolence visit to the area. THE Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate suspension of the Unit Head of the Forestry Department in the Malumfashi Local Government Area of the State. This follows a serious report of allegations received by the government over his involvement in the sale of parts of Makaurachi Forest Reserve in the local government area. AN improvised explosive device (IED) has claimed the life of an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abubakar Nurudeen, in Jakana, Konduga Local Government Area, along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road, Borno State. Nurudeen was, on Thursday, inspecting Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) power lines previously brought down by unknown persons when the tragedy struck.
