BANDITS have abducted a 90-year-old village head, Mallam Abubakar Lafiya, in Ka’ada, Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, sparking concern among residents of the community and surrounding areas.
News Point Nigeria gathered that the bandits stormed the elderly community leader’s residence at about 6pm on Saturday and whisked him away after firing several shots.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim is the biological father of the current District Head of Dekara.
“The abduction has caused concern among us in Ka’ada, Dekara and surrounding communities, particularly because of the victim’s advanced age. The village head is 90 years old now,” the resident said.
He described the incident as distressing, saying residents were praying for the safe return of the elderly community leader.
The abduction has heightened anxiety among residents, who have called for urgent action by security agencies to ensure the victim’s safety and secure his immediate release.
Residents urged the authorities to intensify efforts to track down the abductors and bring the elderly village head home safely.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the police were unsuccessful, as the telephone number of the Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson could not be reached as of press time.
