SUSPECTED bandits have launched a brazen overnight attack on a Nigeria Police Border Patrol outpost at New Kalli (also referred to as Kale) village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, setting the facility ablaze and destroying farm produce belonging to local residents.
News Point Nigeria reports that the attack, which occurred late on Monday night, came less than 48 hours after deadly assaults on traders and farmers at Kasuwan Daji, also in Borgu LGA, raising fresh concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the border communities of the state.
Local sources disclosed that the assailants arrived in the village on motorcycles and targeted the police border patrol “nipping point,” setting fire to the room used as accommodation by officers manning the outpost.
According to residents, the attackers destroyed personal belongings of police officers, torched stored farm produce, and looted some items before fleeing the area.
Although no casualties were recorded, the incident has heightened fear, anxiety, and frustration among farmers and residents who say repeated attacks are crippling livelihoods and forcing people to abandon farmlands.
“One of the sources said the bandits came late at night, burned down the police accommodation, destroyed farm produce belonging to villagers, and escaped with some personal items,” a source familiar with the incident told reporters.
Confirming the incident, the Disaster Officer of Borgu Local Government Area, Musa Saidu, said security agencies had been notified and that assessment of the damage was ongoing.
He noted that the local government was working with security operatives to gather details and provide necessary support to affected residents.
The Niger State Police Command also confirmed the attack through its spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, who provided an official account of the incident.
According to Abiodun, the attack occurred on January 4, 2026, at about 10:30pm
“Suspected bandits attacked the police border patrol nipping point located at Kale village, via Borgu LGA,” he said.
“The hoodlums were engaged in a fierce gun battle and were repelled by the police team. However, the security post was engulfed in fire during the exchange,” Abiodun explained.
He added that normalcy was later restored, and reinforcements have since been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies were said to be maintaining patrols in the area, while investigations into the attack continue.
