THE Birnin-Kudu Old Boys Association (BIKOBA) has joined the government and people of Jigawa State, particularly the state judiciary in mourning the passing of former Kadi of the Jigawa State Sharia Court of Appeal, Kadi Bashir Birnin-Kudu, describing him as a trailblazer in Islamic legal education and a symbol of integrity in the dispensation of justice.
The late jurist, who was also the pioneer Provost of the Jigawa State School of Islamic and Legal Studies, Ringim, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, after a prolonged illness while receiving treatment at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
In a condolence message signed by BIKOBA President, Alhaji Ja’afar Usman Muhammad (Turakin Gaya) sent to News Point Nigeria, the association extolled the sterling virtues of the late Kadi, noting that his life was characterized by unwavering dedication to justice, education, and the moral upliftment of society.
“During his lifetime, late Kadi Bashir Birnin-Kudu remarkably contributed to the development of both Islamic legal education and the Sharia legal system in Kano and Jigawa States,” the statement read.
“As the pioneer head of the Jigawa State School of Islamic and Legal Studies, he provided a solid foundation for countless legal professionals who today serve across various judicial and academic institutions in Nigeria.”
Alhaji Ja’afar described the deceased as a guiding light in Islamic jurisprudence whose commitment to fairness and scholarship left an indelible mark on the judicial landscape of the state.
Beyond his judicial and academic roles, the late Kadi Bashir was also deeply involved in community leadership and religious development. He served as the Chief Imam of Dutse Central Mosque and Chairman of the Jigawa State Council of Ulama, positions through which he promoted unity, spiritual enlightenment, and moral discipline among the Muslim Ummah.
“His lifetime was full of efforts to foster unity and cohesion among Muslims through his sermons, public engagements, and exemplary leadership,” the BIKOBA President added.
Alhaji Ja’afar further noted that the late Kadi’s humility, wisdom, and devotion to public service earned him profound respect from colleagues, students, and religious followers alike.
The association extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, particularly his elder brother, Malam Sale Ahmed Birnin-Kudu, and prayed for divine comfort and strength for all who mourn him.
“We pray to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdausi, and give his family and the entire Jigawa judiciary the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.
