SUPER Eagles of Nigeria progressed to the last 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after beating Guinea-Bissau 1-0 in the last group match.
Bissau’s Sangante put the ball in his own net after a good cross from Nigeria’s Simon Moses for the only goal of the match.
In the other group match, the host, Cote D’Ivoire suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat in the hands of Equatorial Guinea, who topped the group with seven points same as the Eagles but with a better goal difference.
The Super Eagles will face the second-placed side from Group C, which will be Senegal, Guinea or Cameroon, in the last 16 on Saturday (20:00 GMT).
Bouchra Karboubi became the second woman to referee an Afcon finals game, following in the footsteps of Salima Mukansanga in Cameroon two years ago, with the Moroccan also making history by heading the first all-female officiating team at the finals.
