CHELSEA defender, Tosin Adarabioyo has stated that he is yet to make a final decision on whether to represent Nigeria at the international level, despite growing speculation that he is poised to pledge allegiance to the Super Eagles.
The 26-year-old central defender, who was born in Manchester to Nigerian parents, has played for England at various youth levels, featuring for the U-16, U-17, U-18, and U-19 national teams.
However, he has never been capped at the senior level by the Three Lions, leaving the door open for a potential switch to represent the country of his heritage.
In recent months, there have been strong rumours and reports suggesting that Adarabioyo is leaning towards choosing Nigeria, especially following his first-ever visit to the country in July 2025.
The trip, seen by many as symbolic, has added momentum to calls for the towering centre-back to join the Super Eagles, who are preparing for a new era under head coach Chelle.
But speaking during a recent media interaction, Adarabioyo revealed that no decision has been made yet.
“It’s something I still think about,” he said when asked about potentially switching international allegiance. “We will see in the near future, hopefully, and I’ll start to make a decision.
“It’s just something that has obviously been a topic for many years now since I’ve become a professional footballer. But again, like I said, we’ll see.”
Sources close to the player indicate that conversations with both family members and football advisors are ongoing, and while no official confirmation has been issued, the likelihood of him opting for Nigeria is reportedly strong.
If Adarabioyo chooses to play for Nigeria, he would become one of a growing list of England-born players of Nigerian descent who have switched allegiance, including Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, and Joe Aribo.
The Super Eagles are currently undergoing a period of rebuilding and strategic reinforcements, especially in the defence line, ahead of key fixtures in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
However, even if Adarabioyo confirms his decision soon, he may not be available for selection in the September international window, as the paperwork and documentation process required by FIFA to switch international eligibility could take several weeks to complete.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly monitoring the situation and remains optimistic that the defender will don the green and white soon, especially as the team seeks to strengthen its backline ahead of upcoming crucial matches.
