BARELY five days after News Point Nigeria’s report about the four communities suffering from untold hardship over the collapse of a bridge at Fajewa town of Takai Local Government Area of Kano state, Senator representing Kano South, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila has sent a construction company to build a new bridge.
News Point Nigeria had on Monday reported that, the villages of Fajewa, Birnin Bako, Tumbushi, and Gidan Malam all in Takai Local Government are suffering from untold hardship following a collapse of the Fajewa bridge which linked the communities together.
An earlier visit to the town by our correspondent shows how women and children were carried by youths on their shoulders to cross over the drained river for their daily activities.
A few days after the report, a reliable source in the Senator Sumaila’s camp, told our correspondent that upon reading the story on the website of the newspaper by a staff, it was forwarded to the Senator, who called an immediate meeting of his staff.
The source, who shared some visit pictures with our reporter added that, the Senator was angry that the story got to the media before it got to him and he immediately reached out to officials of the state govt for an urgent response.
“And just yesterday, the Senator along with the Kano state Commissioner For Transportation, Alhaji Muhammad Diggol visited the site of the collapsed bridge and met with leaders of the four communities
“They were happy to see him and he promised the communities emergency palliatives and an immediate reconstruction of a better bridge. In fact, he had secured a company to come check out the work even before we got to the communities”, the source added.
A second visit by our correspondent on Friday was greeted by cheers from the villagers as a construction company was already on site for pre-construction measurement of a new bridge.
