THE Nigeria Customs has described a recent report on the tenure extension of Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR as false and misleading.
In a press statement monitored on X on Wednesday, national public relations officer, Abdulahi Maiwada, stated that appointments and tenure extensions for the position of Comptroller-General of Customs are made solely at the discretion of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
According to him, such an extension will be within the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant regulations governing public service appointments.
“As of this moment, no such directive has been communicated to the NCS by the appropriate authorities,” Maiwada said.
Maiwada added that Adeniyi will not be distracted by such a fake report, adding that the Customs Comptroller remains focused on carrying out key reforms aimed at modernizing customs operations, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and enhancing national economic growth.
“The NCS wishes to categorically state that this information is inaccurate and misleading,” Maiwada said.
