WITH the 2027 general elections steadily approaching, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released fresh statistics from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, showing that Osun State continues to top the chart with the highest number of registrants.
According to data published at the end of week five obtained by News Point Nigeria, Osun recorded 678,904 pre-registered voters, making it the leading state in the nationwide exercise.
INEC revealed that a total of 5,385,060 Nigerians have so far pre-registered on its online portal. Out of this number, 2,585,216 (48.1%) are male, while 2,799,844 (51.99%) are female—an indication that women are participating more actively in the exercise.
Fresh figures also showed a surprise twist as Borno State surged past Lagos to claim the second spot with 561,666 registrants, while Lagos now sits in third place with 530,180, followed by Ogun State with 427,455.
The zonal breakdown further revealed that the South West is leading nationally with 1,838,656 registrants, followed by the North West with 1,295,747, and the North East with 991,314. The North Central recorded 875,948 registrants, while the South-South stands at 280,904. The South East remains at the bottom with only 76,493 pre-registrations.
INEC data also showed that young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 dominate the registration roll, accounting for 3,604,668 of the total registrants. In addition, 114,713 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) have so far taken part in the exercise.
The Commission noted that individuals who pre-registered online must still complete the process at designated registration centres through biometric data capture before they can be eligible to vote.
Despite impressive numbers across most geopolitical zones, the South East continues to struggle. Imo tops the zone with 63,306 registrants, while Anambra remains on hold. INEC explained that Anambra concluded its CVR ahead of its November governorship election but will resume registration once the polls are over.
As of the time of this report, INEC clarified that the released data covers only online pre-registration, while statistics for in-person registrants who have fully completed the exercise are yet to be released.
INEC urged Nigerians to take advantage of the CVR window, stressing that early registration will reduce last-minute rush and ensure wider participation in the 2027 general elections.
