THE Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of two prime suspects linked to a violent armed robbery and attempted murder that targeted popular Nigerian singer Lil Kesh and another Lagos resident in August.

The arrest, which marks a major breakthrough in the high-profile case, was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa seen by News Point Nigeria.

According to the statement, tactical police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, tracked and apprehended the suspects on September 11 at Na’ibawa Quarters in Kano metropolis.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Mathew Adewole, 25, of Na’ibawa Quarters, and Mukhtar Muhammad, 31, of Unguwa Uku Quarters, both in Kano State.

Police investigations revealed that the two men were allegedly behind the August 19, 2025 attack at Bera Estate, Chevron Drive, a highbrow area of Lagos, where Lil Kesh and a resident were violently assaulted.

During the robbery, Adewole reportedly stabbed the victim in the neck with a sharp object, leaving him with life-threatening injuries, before coercing him to transfer ₦2,120,000 into Muhammad’s bank account via mobile banking.

The incident, which sparked outrage on social media, was initially under investigation by the Lagos State Police Command before intelligence reports traced the suspects’ hideout to Kano.

SP Kiyawa confirmed that Adewole confessed to the crime during interrogation, corroborating key details of the case already obtained by investigators in Lagos.

Following their arrest, both suspects were transferred to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and eventual prosecution in court.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, praised the swift work of the tactical operatives and commended the synergy between security agencies that led to the arrest.

“This is another example of how intelligence-led policing and public cooperation can deliver results. The Command will continue to work closely with Lagos State Police Command and other stakeholders to ensure criminals have no hiding place,” Bakori said.

He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to public safety, citing ongoing efforts to strengthen community policing and intelligence gathering across the state.
