THERE was mild drama as Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, the two men locked in struggle for the position of National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clashed at the commencement of the Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting of the opposition party.
The PDP, which is currently entangled in crisis from different fronts, held BoT meeting at its National Headquarters, on Wednesday.
PDP BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, officially opened the meeting at 12:05 p.m. in Abuja.
Anyanwu was present from the start, while Ude-Okoye arrived at precisely 12:10 p.m.
The atmosphere was tensed, as the meeting entered a closed-door session shortly thereafter.
Recall that, in 2023, the PDP’s South East zone nominated former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu as National Secretary after he was chosen as the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election.
The South East PDP contended that Anyanwu should no longer hold the position following his selection as the Imo candidate, sparking further controversy.
On December 20, 2024, the Appeal Court in Enugu upheld Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary, and the decision was formally communicated to the party leadership on December 24.
However, last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order, directing Anyanwu to remain National Secretary until the Supreme Court resolves the appeal.
