    Drug Abuse: Stakeholders Foster Strategy To Curb Criminal Tendencies In Kano

    THE Kano Reformatory Center, created to tackles drugs addiction, peddling and rehabilitation of victims, has Commences a three days all encompassing strategic stakeholders Meeting to get to the roots of the Problems of Drugs related crimes.

    Speaking during the three day meeting, the Coordinator of the Center, Charley Amminata Kwagga, hints that, “today, we gather not merely as institutions, but as one united force bound by a shared commitment to protect our youth, safeguard our communities, and rebuild the moral an social foundations of Kano State.

    She said the theme of the summit, “Strength in Unity,” echoes a truth we cannot ignore: no single agency or sector can curb drug abuse alone. Real victory lies in collective action, shared strategies, and sustained collaboration and that why we are gathered here today to join our knowledge and collective efforts to bring solution and ways to curb this menace in our great state.”

    Kwagga explained that the kano state government can’t not do it alone, but a joint effort can bring a drastic change in the society.

    “As the Kano Reformative Center, our mission goes beyond awareness, it extends into rehabilitation, reintegration, advocacy, and community transformation. Every day, we witness firsthand the consequences of drug abuse: broken homes, shattered dreams, rising insecurity, and young lives drifting into hopelessness.”

    “But we also witness the power of support, guidance, and structured intervention-proof that with the right help, every addicted individual and youth can rise again.

    “This summit stands as a bold step toward forging stronger alliances between security agencies, traditional rulers, healthcare professionals, educators, parents, NGOs, and policymakers. Each stakeholder carries a unique role, and when these roles are harmonized, the impact becomes transformational.”

    She added that, “Our goal is clear, Strengthen prevention through education and community sensitization, Improve synergy among agencies in identifying and disrupting drug networks, Expand access to rehabilitation and psychosocial support Promote reintegration pathways that give recovering youths a future to believe in.

    “We also aimed at reviving the traditional and cultural norms that once protected our communities from moral decay to use them effectively in achieving results.

    Speaking Brig Gen Gambo Mai Addua Chairman Committee On Illicts Drugs And Phone Snatching, assured that he is working in tandem with the center to do it together by reducing if not eliminating drugs addiction in Kano.

    Brigadier General AM Tukur Commander 3 Brigade Nigeria Army Kano, said the programme is timely, as drug-related criminality continues to weaken community stability, threaten public safety and endanger the future of our young people.

    “It is therefore essential that stakeholders work together with unity, determination and strategic coordination.

    He said although the Nigerian Army is not the lead agency in drug law enforcement, but they remain committed to supporting civil authorities and collaborating closely with the Security Agencies, traditional institutions and community groups. Our role is to help create a secure environment where prevention, rehabilitation”.

    General Tukur notes reintegration and community development efforts can thrive. We recognize that long-term success requires a multi-sectoral approach that addresses both criminal activities and the socio-economic drivers of drug abuse.

    We especially commend KRC, Kiru, for its dedication to rehabilitation and reform. Your work provides meaningful pathways for vulnerable youths to rebuild their lives, thereby strengthening the fabric of our communities and complementing ongoing security efforts.
