A POLICE sergeant has shot dead his father, ASP Wadzani Ntasiri, who was a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), following a brawl on Sunday in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The police sergeant, who was identified as Linus Wadzani, is a mobile police personnel with MOPOL 6 Maiduguri, and serves as a security personnel at the Borno State House of Assembly complex.

Confirming the incident to this newspaper on Monday at the headquarters of the State’s police command in Maiduguri, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Nahum Daso, said the murderd father of the trigger-happy policeman served with the State Command before retirement.

Narrating the incident, the PPRO said Sgt Linus got home at about 4:30pm and had a heated argument with the father leading to him shooting the father multiple times with an AK47 rifle leading to his instant death.

On a visit to the home of the deceased ASP Wadzani Ntasiri at the Modugannari area of Maiduguri Metropolis, a family member disclosed that when Sgt Linus returned home on the fateful Sunday, there was no one at home except the late father and that as such, no one can give an account of what actually transpired.

“A patrol team of the police command rescued the situation on receiving a distress call. The team disarmed him and collected the AK47 rifle. On personal interrogation of Sgt Linus, he confessed to being under the influence of alcohol and other hard substances when he shot the father.

“A forensic team from the command has been assembled and blood samples of the Sgt collected for sampling to determine his mental status before the crime,” he said.

The PPRO warned members of the public, especially those selling alcohol not to sell to any policeman on uniform or duty.
