EKITI State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced a major shake-up of his cabinet, relieving several commissioners and special advisers of their duties with immediate effect.
The development, announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, on Sunday, marks a partial dissolution of the State Executive Council.
According to the statement, the affected commissioners and advisers are required to hand over all official documents and property to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Governor Oyebanji expressed his gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service to the state and wished them well in their future pursuits.
The shake-up, however, does not affect key portfolios, as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice will remain in office.
Other unaffected positions include the Commissioner for Health and Human Services; Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security; Commissioner for Education; Commissioner for Works; Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives; Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion; and Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS.
Additionally, all Directors General who serve as members of the State Executive Council will retain their positions.
These include the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), the Director General of SDGs and Project Monitoring, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
While the statement did not provide reasons for the reshuffle, political observers suggest that the move may be part of the governor’s strategy to reposition his administration for greater efficiency as he enters the mid-term phase of his tenure.
