THE All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Bauchi State during the 2023 election, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (rtd.), might have resigned his membership from the party, just as he was seen at the inaugural meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja on Wednesday.
A source close to Sadique told our correspondent that he is yet to make a public announcement but, “Certainly, he was at the ADC meeting today in Abuja. He would not have been at the gathering if he was not joining the coalition.”
Also, in a video clip obtained by our correspondent, the retired military officer who is seeking the Bauchi top job was seen with dignitaries.
When asked whether Sadique still has the ambition to run for governorship, the source, who is an insider, told our correspondent that, “That is for sure. He is definitely going to contest in 2027.”
Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who challenged the incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, polled 432,272 votes, while the governor retained his seat after he garnered 525,281 votes.
Since losing his legal challenge at the Supreme Court, Sadique Abubakar has not been publicly associating with his party, both at national and state activities.
Many believe he is not with the camp of the President, Bola Tinubu, right from the campaign period of 2023.
He was not considered for a ministerial appointment or any position in the Tinubu administration.
In 2023, he accused the then Chairman of the party in Bauchi, Babayo Misau, of working against his mandate, saying he did not cast his vote for APC. Misau challenged him to sue him in court for perceived anti-party activities.
