MINISTER of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has condemned the conduct of popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, aka K 1 de Ultimate, for blocking a moving aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has since blacklisted the singer for six months, following the incident that saw him obstructing a ValueJet flight from taxiing on Tuesday.
Keyamo, in a firm statement, described Ayinde’s actions as “unacceptable, reprehensible, and akin to a hostage situation.”
“Contrary to what his agents are saying, Kwam 1 physically moved on the tarmac to block a plane ready for take-off. That’s not just unruly, it’s a serious breach of aviation safety,” the minister said in a post on X.
Following this, Keyamo directed that Kwam 1 be placed on a no-fly list, and warned that any airline, domestic or international that flouts this directive may have its license withdrawn.
The altercation reportedly began when Ayinde was stopped from boarding the Lagos-bound flight for carrying a flask containing alcohol, which he allegedly spilled on an aviation worker during a fit of rage.
In response to the entire incident, two ValueJet pilots were suspended by the NCAA on Wednesday for proceeding to taxi the aircraft while the obstruction occurred.
“The decision underscores the zero-tolerance policy of both FAAN and NCAA towards aggression, non-compliance, or disruption at any airport,” FAAN said in a statement.
Keyamo said investigations are ongoing and more sanctions may follow, adding that no one is above the law, regardless of status.
