ANOTHER major political development has emerged in Kano State as former governor and former senator, Kabiru Gaya, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
News Point Nigeria reports that Gaya, who also served as a Senator representing Kano South, formally communicated his decision in a letter addressed to the ward chairman of Gaya Arewa in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.
In the letter, the former governor explained that his resignation was taken in the best interests of his constituents and guided by his personal convictions to step aside from the party at this time.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation from the All Progressive Congress (APC) effective today, 5th April 2026,” he stated.
Reflecting on his time in the party, Gaya expressed appreciation for the opportunities and support he received during his political journey under the APC platform.
“It has been an honour to serve under the platform of the party, particularly during my tenure as a Senator (2015–2023). I remain grateful for the support, trust, and opportunities given to me during this period,” he added.
The former governor further noted that his decision followed extensive consultations and deep personal reflection, ultimately leading him to conclude that stepping aside was the most appropriate course of action.
“However, after careful reflection and wide consultation, I have come to the considered conclusion that it is in the best interest of my constituents and my personal convictions to step aside from the party at this time,” he said.
Gaya also extended his appreciation to the party for the platform it provided him over the years, acknowledging the cooperation and camaraderie he enjoyed during his time in the APC.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and camaraderie extended over the years,” he concluded.
His resignation marks another notable shift in Kano’s political landscape, coming at a time of ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
