Four Dead As Tricyclists Clash With Natives Over N50 In Bayelsa

MORE than four persons aee feared dead in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, over a squabble that allegedly began when a passenger paid a tricycle operator N100 while the tricyclist demanded N150 fee.

News Point Nigeria reports that, the squabble ensued led to a physical combat and the tricyclist alledgedly stabbed the passenger which led to his death.

A mob at the Yenizue-Epie area of Yenagoa where the squabble ensued subsequently stoned the tricyclist to death.

The incident triggered an outburst of violence between the Hausa community in Yenagoa and the inhabitants of Yenizue-Epie which resulted in two more lives lost.

As of the time of filing this report, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has called for a meeting between the Hausa community and the leaders of Yenizue-Epie.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the incidents.

The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, also condemned the murder of the youth by the Keke rider as well as his lynching.

He said, “The Bayelsa State Police Command has deployed an anti-riot squad to restore normalcy at Kpansia and environs, over the unfortunate murder of a community youth by a tricycle rider and two others.

“The youth was allegedly stabbed to death by the tricycle rider over a minor disagreement.

“The Command condemns the action of the tricycle rider, who was also lynched to death by irate youths and appeal to members of the community to be calm.”
