THE Chairman of Gombe State Athletics Association (GAA), Alhaji Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe has expressed readiness to work collectively with various stakeholders in restoring the lost glory of the sport in the state and North East region in general.
Gara stated this at a two day sport management seminar on athletics technical officiating and coaching held in the state capital.
Gara Gombe, who is also the Special Adviser to Gombe Stare Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, on information strategies management said the seminar is geared towards cultivating interest in Athletics from the teeming youths in the state.
“I see this venture as my contribution to help the youths in the state to assist them use the sport as an Avenue to be self-reliant”, Gara stated.
He added that the seminar served as a channel to discover young athletes for future state, national as well as international engagements.
The Special Adviser then decries the dilapidated state of the sport in Gombe state and the North East region in general, promising to do everything possible to develop the game and recover its lost glory in the region.
The former chairman of Gombe State Football Association then highlights that the game has produced star athletes like Abbas Muhammad, Kolo Muhammad to mention a few.
He further reiterated his readiness to work with relevant stakeholders in order to actualize the set objectives.
He then commended the Gombe state govt for its continuous support and assistance in promoting the game and he then thanked the stakeholders for their contributions too.
While commending the leadership of National Athletics Association of Technical Officials NAATO for their support and cooperation, he pledged to continue to work hand in hand with the body as well as the Athletics Federation of Nigeria AFN towards the overall development of the game in the state and the country in general.
Several experts presented their papers at the seminar, who include; Dr Alex Mana, Dr Achi Solomon, Kolo Muhammad, Mr Gama Yakubu James, Prince Simon Ayuba among others.
Highlights of the event include questions and answers as well as demonstrations and presentation of certificate to the participants.
