Gaza: Intense Fighting In Khan Younis Ahead Of Ceasefire Talks In Egypt

ISRAELI forces and Palestinian fighters are engaged in intense combat around Gaza’s Khan Younis, with Hamas claiming it killed 14 Israeli soldiers during an ambush in the southern city.

Mediators are expected to resume ceasefire talks in Egypt’s capital, Cairo, on Sunday. Hamas is sending a delegation and the Israeli war cabinet is expected to meet on Sunday to decide if it will also participate in the talks.

Meanwhile, the Reuters news agency is reporting fresh Israeli air raids in Lebanon, this time on the Bekaa Valley in the east of the country.

Citing two Lebanese security sources, the agency said the Israeli attack targeted a training camp belonging to the Hezbollah armed group in Janta village, near Lebanon’s border with Syria.

The sources told Reuters that one of the raids was aimed at the town of Safri, near the eastern city of Baalbek, and added that there were no casualties reported.

The Israeli attacks came a few hours after Hezbollah said it had downed an Israeli drone over Lebanon.

Israeli forces and Hezbollah have traded fire since Israel launched its war on Gaza following Hamas’s October 7 attack. The fighting has displaced tens of thousands of people in southern Lebanon and in northern Israel.
