GOMBE State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has approved the constitution of a high-powered committee to implement the White Paper Report on the Assessment of Grazing Reserves, Forest Reserves, Game Reserves, and Cattle Routes across the state.
The Secretary to the State Governnent, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who conveyed the Governor’s approval, explained that the committee comprises representatives from key security agencies, relevant ministries and departments, traditional institutions, farmers’ and harders’ associations, as well as technical and regulatory bodies.
Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Babaji Sunday has been appointed as Chairman of the Committee.
Members are: Yusuf Madi, Director of Livestock; Suleiman Musa Kumo, Director of Forestry, The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command; The State Director of Security; The Commandant, 301 Field Artillery Regiment, Gombe; The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Emir of Yamaltu, HRH, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, representing the Council of Emirs and Chiefs.
Others are: Alhaji Ardo Chindo Abubakar, representing Miyetti Allah; Alhaji Mohammed Magaji Gettado, AFAN National President, representing the All Farmers Association of Nigeria; Surveyor Zakari Isa, Surveyor General of the State; Dr. Kabiru Usman Hassan, Director-General, Gombe Geographic Information System (GOGIS); Barrister Ibrahim Hussaini, representing the Ministry of Justice and Professor Usman B. Abubakar, State Coordinator, L-PRESS.
The PPS/ Permanent Secretary, General Duties, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Muazu Shehu, will serve as Secretary of the Committee.
All the appointments are with immediate effect.
The constitution of this implimentation committee is in line with Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to translate government policy decisions into actionable measures aimed at strengthening livestock management, safeguarding forest and game reserves, promoting environmental sustainability and ensuring peaceful coexistence between farmers and harders in Gombe State.
