ABOUT 250 schools across Zamfara State will benefit from scores of educational materials to be distributed by the Zamfara State Government across the State.
This was revealed by the State Governor himself, Dauda Lawal at a handing-over ceremony in the state on Thursday.
While presenting the learning materials to the beneficiary schools, Lawal explained that the educational materials were a result of collaborations between the Universal Basic Education (UBEB) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Lawal described education as the “bedrock” of civilization, hence, the need for collaboration.
“This gesture is one of the many Zamfara stands to benefit from. The State would continue to enjoy such support from national and international partners to move education forward. Education is the bedrock of civilisation, hence our various interventions as this administration are prioritising education. Our commitment to prioritise education is important and we are reviving education at every level.
“We are committed to providing Zamafara with quality education to be able to compete with other students in other states,” he said.
The items to be distributed are for 250 beneficial schools include; 242, 000, 147, 000 textbooks, 203 materials for ECCDA, 25 ECCDA tablets as well as chess, 8, 210 library materials, as well as 35 Unicef materials for solar-powered equipment.
The Governor warned of the implication of the materials being stolen and threatened to dismiss school principals caught in the act.
“These solar equipment are unique and not the same as the ones at the market. I am cautioning the principals here that under no circumstances should these solar systems be stolen. If this happens, I will dismiss you. You should know what we are going through in the area of education, and we are doing everything humanely possible to revive the sector,” he said.
Chairman, of Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Nasir Anka said the act was to empower students across the State.
“This is a collaborative effort at empowering both teachers and students with teaching and learning materials. They have been generously provided by UBEB and UNICEF. Basic education is not just providing materials and textbooks but providing education that would enable our students to compete globally,” he said.
