Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Benibo Anabraba as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), in what political observers describe as another key move in the ongoing reorganisation of the state’s executive structure.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Kuru Sirawoo sent to News Point Nigeria, who said the new SSG will be sworn in by 4 p.m. at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt.
Anabraba, a seasoned politician and grassroots mobiliser, previously served as Commissioner for Housing under the Fubara administration before his earlier appointment was nullified by the Supreme Court in 2024.
The apex court had ruled that his confirmation along with those of other commissioners was invalid since it had not been screened by a legally constituted House of Assembly.
A former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Akuku-Toru Constituency II, Anabraba is known for his strong legislative background and his close political alliance with Governor Fubara.
The office of the Secretary to the State Government is a pivotal role in the state’s bureaucracy, responsible for coordinating the activities of ministries, departments, and agencies, and serving as a bridge between the executive and other arms of government.
