KANO State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has charged his political appointees and senior government officials to place integrity at the core of their service, warning that corruption, dishonesty, and lack of accountability will undermine the state’s progress.
The governor gave the admonition at a three-day retreat themed “Anti-Corruption, Financial Fraud, Transformational Leadership, and Ethical Values in the Workplace,” jointly organized by ANHI Consultants International and the Kano State Government in Kaduna over the weekend.
In a statement issued Monday by his spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofam made available to News point Nigeria, Governor Yusuf stressed that only honesty and transparency could guarantee a better future for Kano.
“Every action, decision, and policy must reflect the values of transparency, honesty, and accountability. Together, we must build a legacy of integrity that will not only transform today but also guarantee a just and prosperous future for generations to come,” the governor declared.
He warned that corruption disproportionately affects the poor and vulnerable, adding that Kano residents were increasingly impatient with excuses.
“They demand action and results. They want a government that works for them, not one that enriches a few. That was why they voted for us in 2023, and we must not disappoint them,” Yusuf cautioned.
The governor emphasized that policy success depends not only on design but on the integrity and professionalism of those implementing them. He urged his officials to remain courageous, visionary, and steadfast in upholding ethical standards, even under pressure.
Governor Yusuf commended the organizers of the retreat, particularly Dr. Aminu I. Gusau and other facilitators, for equipping appointees with tools to lead effectively.
In his remarks, Dr. Gusau praised the calibre of the governor’s team, describing them as capable of steering Kano toward the “promised land.”
Similarly, the Chief of Staff, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani, and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farooq Ibrahim, hailed Governor Yusuf’s leadership, noting that his administration had achieved in two years what some of his predecessors could not deliver in eight.
The retreat concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants and a group photograph session.
