KANO State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed the Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch Law, 2025, as part of his administration’s efforts to enhance security and crime prevention at the grassroots level.
The new law, passed by the Kano State House of Assembly, establishes a legal framework for community-based security initiatives aimed at improving public safety and complementing the work of law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at the signing ceremony during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Governor Yusuf stressed the importance of community participation in tackling security challenges.
“This law is a significant step towards ensuring the safety of our people,” the governor said. “Security is not just the responsibility of the government; it requires collaboration between authorities and the public. By formalizing neighbourhood watch structures, we are empowering communities to play a more active role in safeguarding lives and property,” he said.
Yusuf noted that the initiative would help curb crimes such as robbery, drug abuse, and other security threats affecting various parts of the state.
He called on residents to support the new initiative by cooperating with security agencies and reporting suspicious activities. “A safer Kano is possible when we all work together,” he said.
In addition to the Neighborhood Watch Law, the governor also assented to two other laws—the Kano State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Amendment) Law, 2025, and the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Law, 2025.
Governor Yusuf reiterated that his administration remains committed to strengthening security and improving the overall well-being of Kano residents.
