UNKNOWN gunmen have killed a police inspector and four other persons during an attack on Gaya Dlang community in Kuva Gaya District of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the deadly attack, which occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Monday, is the second recorded in the area within a month and has renewed concerns among residents over persistent attacks by armed men.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahya-Nguroje, while speaking with Channels Television at the command headquarters in Yola.
According to reports, the attackers invaded the community, setting several homes ablaze and looting food items before fleeing the area.
During the attack, a police inspector serving in Kuva Gaya was killed alongside four other persons.
The latest incident came barely a month after gunmen attacked Zah community in Yadul District, an attack which, according to sources, claimed four lives, including that of a forest guard.
Nguroje said security personnel, including military operatives, had been deployed to Gaya Dlang to secure the community and ascertain the exact number of casualties from the latest attack.
Several residents also sustained minor injuries while attempting to flee from the attackers and were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Hong, where they received medical attention.
The bodies of the deceased have equally been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre.
The police spokesman assured residents that normalcy had been restored in the community following the deployment of additional security personnel.
He added that investigations were ongoing to unravel the identities of those behind the attack and bring them to justice.
The persistent attacks by unknown gunmen have continued to raise serious concerns among residents of the affected communities, many of whom depend largely on farming for their livelihoods.
The attacks have reportedly forced some residents to abandon their farms, particularly at the peak of the farming season, disrupting agricultural activities and heightening concerns over food security in the area.
