A NEWLY married man, Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, has been allegedly stabbed to death by his wife just three days after their wedding in Jibia town, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
News Point Nigeria reports that she tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, November 23, 2025, has plunged the community into shock and raised questions about the circumstances leading to the groom’s violent death.
Abdulkarim, who married Zainab Muhammad on Thursday, November 20, was reportedly attacked while asleep in their home at Tashar Buja Quarters, where he sustained a deep knife wound to the neck.
A relative of the deceased, Aminu Danladi, said he and other family members had spent the morning with the groom discussing plans for a family visit scheduled later that evening.
“We were preparing for the outing. He left us to go home and get ready,” Danladi recalled. “Not long after, we received the news that he had been found dead. It was unbelievable.”
Danladi dismissed rumours making rounds in the community that the marriage was forced, insisting that the couple had a cordial relationship and had shown no signs of conflict before or after their wedding.
Sources in the neighbourhood told reporters that the wife, believed to be in her early 20s and originally from Katsina metropolis, acted strangely after the incident. She reportedly left the house after the alleged stabbing and went to a neighbour to ask for food.
Her unusual composure, despite being newly married, raised suspicion among older women in the vicinity who decided to accompany her back to the apartment.
“When they entered the house, they found the groom lying in a pool of blood,” a community source said. “They immediately raised an alarm and alerted security personnel.”
The incident is believed to have occurred between 12:00pm and 1:00pm
It was also gathered that the wife had been previously married and divorced, a detail the groom and his family were allegedly unaware of before the wedding.
She was reportedly introduced to the groom by his nephew, who knew her from their days at Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia.
The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the suspect has been taken into custody.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the Jibia Division received a distress report around 1:30 p.m. and immediately dispatched detectives to the crime scene.
“Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying motionless in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his neck,” Aliyu stated. “He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but was unfortunately confirmed dead on arrival.”
