How To Apply For FG’s Loan For Laptops, Smartphones, Others

THE Federal Government’s newly launched consumer credit scheme for digital devices, the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices Programme (C.L.I.C.K.D.), is now accepting applications from Nigerians seeking affordable, credit-based access to laptops, smartphones and tablets.

    NEW UBA

News Point Nigeria reports that the programme, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, alongside the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba.

The C.L.I.C.K.D. initiative is designed to help Nigerians acquire digital devices through structured and spread-out payments rather than paying the full cost upfront. The programme will begin with locally assembled laptops as CREDICORP moves to prioritise local manufacturing.

    How To Apply:

Prospective beneficiaries are required to visit the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal at “credicorp.ng/clickd” and click on the “I’m Interested” button, which leads to the application form.

Applicants will be required to provide several details, including their state of residence, with all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory listed on the platform.

They are also expected to indicate what best describes them by selecting from categories such as employed salary earners, freelancers or self-employed persons, business owners, students, job seekers or members of the National Youth Service Corps.

The application form further provides an optional section for applicants to state their monthly income, ranging from below ₦100,000 to above ₦1 million.

Applicants are also required to indicate whether they belong to any digital talent programme, with options including the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa, Genesys Tech Hub or “Other.”

The form also asks applicants to specify the device they need, including laptops, smartphones, tablets or other devices.

Applicants can equally select multiple reasons for requesting the devices, including learning and certifications, work and remote work, freelancing, business growth, schooling, software development, content creation or other purposes.

In addition, applicants are expected to state how they heard about the programme, with available options including 3MTT, social media, friends or family members, schools, employers, Google search or other sources.

Before submitting their applications, intending beneficiaries must tick three consent boxes confirming that the information supplied is accurate, agreeing to be contacted regarding their applications and authorising CREDICORP and its partners to use their information to assess eligibility.

    Who Qualifies For Now:

For the moment, the ongoing 1,000-laptop pilot phase is limited to fellows of the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, under which C.L.I.C.K.D. was launched as a national pilot project.

Speaking at the unveiling, Nwagba said the rollout commenced in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries had already received devices, adding that the remaining laptops would be distributed to qualified fellows in other states in phases.

CREDICORP has adopted a similar phased implementation model in the past. Its flagship consumer credit scheme, launched in April 2024, initially targeted only federal civil servants before it was later expanded to accommodate a wider range of beneficiaries.

However, the scope of the application form appears to extend beyond 3MTT participants, as it includes options for members of the Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub.

The inclusion of these programmes suggests that their participants may also be eligible to apply, although CREDICORP’s public statements have so far referenced only 3MTT beneficiaries in relation to the current 1,000-laptop pilot phase.

The corporation is yet to disclose key details of the scheme, including the applicable interest rates, repayment tenure and down-payment structure for the C.L.I.C.K.D. loans.
