THE Jigawa State Pension Board has made its second gratuity disbursement of 2026, releasing over N1.4 billion to 564 retired civil servants and beneficiaries across the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that the payment exercise, which took place on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Board’s headquarters in Dutse, also covered families of workers who died in active service and pensioners who passed away while on the payroll.
Addressing beneficiaries during the disbursement ceremony, the State Accountant General, Alhaji Abdullahi A.G. Shehu, said the payment underscores the commitment of Governor Malam Umar Namadi to strengthening the contributory pension scheme and improving workers’ welfare.
He revealed that since May 2023, the Namadi administration has injected more than N11 billion into the state’s pension system to stabilise and reposition it, describing Jigawa as one of the leading states in pension administration nationwide.
According to him, the government’s consistent efforts in implementing reforms have made the state’s pension structure a reference point for others.
“From May 2023 to date, His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar Namadi, has injected over Eleven Billion Naira into the contributory pension scheme, making Jigawa one of the role model states in the country,” Shehu said.
He added that the swift implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, alongside timely payment of salaries and pensions, as well as the settlement of retirees’ entitlements, has attracted delegations from other state governments seeking to understudy Jigawa’s model.
The Accountant General reaffirmed the administration’s determination to prioritise the welfare of both serving civil servants and retirees.
“No stone will be left unturned in supporting the Pension Board to effectively discharge its responsibilities,” he assured.
Providing further breakdown of the disbursement, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Pension Board, Dr Binyaminu Shittu Aminu, disclosed that approximately N1.5 billion was earmarked for the 564 beneficiaries.
He explained that about N1.2 billion of the amount would be paid to 485 retired civil servants, while the remaining balance would be distributed to families of deceased workers who died in active service and families of pensioners entitled to death benefit balances.
Dr Aminu emphasised the Board’s commitment to transparency, efficiency and prompt payment of pensions.
“We remain committed to paying monthly pensions on the first day of every month,” he stated.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed appreciation to the state government for the timely settlement of their entitlements, noting that the payments would significantly ease post-retirement financial challenges.
