THE Imo State Government has sealed a hotel and a private mortuary in Umuhu community, Ngor-Okpala, after authorities discovered decomposed and mutilated corpses kept in unhygienic conditions, sparking suspicions of illegal organ harvesting activities.
News Point Nigeria reports that the development was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the state’s police spokesman, Henry Okoye, who said the action followed a coordinated operation targeting kidnapping and violent crimes along the Owerri–Aba Expressway, and that the operation was led by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, in collaboration with other security stakeholders.
He explained that the crackdown was informed by credible intelligence linked to a suspected criminal kingpin, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who was on the run.
According to the statement, officers inspected the hotel and the private mortuary allegedly owned by Oparaugo, said to be used by kidnappers and violent criminals.
“At the mortuary, decomposed and mutilated corpses were discovered in unhygienic conditions, raising suspicions of illegal organ harvesting activities,” according to the statement.
Following the discovery, the state government ordered the immediate sealing of both facilities. The suspect’s residence was also searched, with critical exhibits recovered.
Okoye added that the CP had assured the public that all accomplices involved in the criminal activities would be identified, arrested and prosecuted.
“Stanley Morocco Oparaugo has been declared WANTED. Anyone with useful information should contact the nearest police station,” Danjuma added.
