THE Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme has commenced the disbursement of more than ₦1.856 billion as terminal and death benefits to 728 retirees and relatives of deceased civil servants across the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that the exercise, which began on Monday, December 8, 2025, took place at the Pension Board Headquarters in Dutse, where beneficiaries gathered to receive what many described as long-awaited relief.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Bilyaminu Shittu Aminu, FCA, said the payout covered gratuities, death benefits, and death pension balances.
Dr. Bilyaminu explained that: Over ₦1.5 billion was earmarked for 607 retirees, while about ₦300 million would go to the relatives of civil servants who died in active service.
He further revealed that an additional batch of 25 deceased retirees, who passed away shortly after retirement, would also be settled soon.
The Executive Secretary praised Governor Umar Namadi, FCA, for what he described as “generous, steadfast, and unwavering commitment” to the welfare of senior citizens who served the state diligently.
According to him, the current administration has injected billions of naira into the pension scheme to ensure uninterrupted gratuity payments and prompt monthly pension disbursements.
Dr. Bilyaminu also urged beneficiaries to channel their funds into productive ventures particularly agriculture to secure their future.
Some beneficiaries, speaking with newsmen, expressed appreciation to the Jigawa State Government for what they called timely intervention, saying the payments would significantly improve their standard of living as retirees.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Governor Namadi has approved the appointment of three new Special Advisers to further strengthen governance in the state.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Isma’il Ibrahim Dutse, ANIPR, the appointees include:
Kabiru A. Sugungun – Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters.
Ibrahim Ahmed Kwaimawa – Special Adviser on Industrial Relations.
Ado Sani Birnin Kudu – Special Adviser on Civil Service Matters
The statement noted that the appointments take immediate effect.
