THE Kogi Central Journalists Guild (KOCJG) has expressed deep concern over the latest detention of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
While acknowledging the agency’s mandate to investigate and prosecute financial crimes, the Guild in press statement jointly signed by its national president, Mallam Muhammad Tijani Abdulsalam, and secretary, Ozumi Abdul urged the EFCC to adhere to the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for fundamental human rights.
The Guild noted that Alhaji Yahaya Bello willingly submitted himself to the EFCC yesterday, demonstrating his cooperation with the investigative process, adding that It is therefore, imperative that the agency treats him with the dignity and respect accorded to every citizen, until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The journalists warn the EFCC against succumbing to undue pressure from political actors who may seek to exploit this situation for personal gain, cautioning that the world is watching, and any deviation from ethical and professional standards will not be tolerated.
The Guild calls on the EFCC to maintain the highest level of professionalism and integrity in handling this case.
