THE Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has been thrown into mourning after armed bandits launched a deadly night-time attack, killing a senior staff member and abducting 25 schoolgirls.
News Point Nigeria gathered that the attackers struck on Sunday night, invading the all-girls school in large numbers and operating for several minutes without resistance.
Panic and terror spread across the community as gunfire echoed through the school premises.
According to security and local sources, who spoke to News Point Nigeria, the bandits shot and killed the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who reportedly attempted to shield some of the students during the chaotic raid.
Witnesses added that the attackers moved swiftly from hostel to hostel, rounding up dozens of girls before fleeing into the nearby forest.
Community members described Makuku as a dedicated educationist who died while trying to protect his students.
Residents have since been offering prayers for his soul, asking Allah to grant him eternal rest and console his family over what has been described as a “painful and unjust loss.”
Confirming the incident to News Point Nigeria, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kebbi State, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said 25 students were abducted during the attack.
He noted that security operatives had been deployed in pursuit of the assailants, while efforts were underway to secure the safe return of the students.
In the wake of the tragic incident, the state government has begun emergency assessments. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ahmed Idris, disclosed that the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, had been assigned to visit the school on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of the state.
“The deputy governor is on his way to ascertain the exact situation. The governor is not in the state at the moment, but his deputy will go on his behalf until he returns shortly,” Idris said.
Parents and residents have gathered at the school and nearby community centres, anxiously awaiting official updates as fears grow for the safety of the abducted girls.
