THE Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a fresh primary election for its governorship ticket in Gombe State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the order was issued in a suit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry challenging the emergence of Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.

The case was presided over by Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed, who ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh governorship primary in accordance with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral laws.
Garry had challenged Pantami’s emergence after the party announced him as its sole candidate on June 26, 2026, arguing that the required primary election was not properly conducted.

Pantami, who was previously an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to the PDP after the APC settled for Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus candidate.
Pantami subsequently secured the PDP ticket through voice affirmation during the party’s governorship primary held in May.
However, in the judgment delivered on Thursday, the Federal High Court ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh primary election, in compliance with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral laws.

The ruling comes after months of legal challenges to the process that produced Pantami as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election. Earlier proceedings in the case had seen the court reserve judgment after hearing arguments from the parties.
